Milwaukee-based Retrospekt, who refurbish and sell vintage cameras and other retro consumer tech, has just announced a limited edition Rollei 35 film camera. The Rollei 35 “Retrospekt 24K Gold Edition” models are fully restored vintage Rollei 35 cameras, electroplated in gold, and selling for $999 each.
When the Rollei 35 debuted in 1966, it was renowned for its incredible compactness and its exceptional optics. Even today, some half a century later, it holds the distinction of being one of the smallest full-frame 35mm film cameras ever made. We reviewed the Rollei 35 some years ago, noting that it remains an incredible piece of usable technology even today.
Each of Retrospekt’s 24K Gold Rollei 35s undergoes a comprehensive restoration process to ensure that every mechanical component works like new.Included with the camera is a presentation box, strap, manual, carrying pouch, and lens attachments.
The cameras are refurbished from existing Rolleis, which means that not all models will be identical, though they will all feature a Carl Zeiss, Schneider Kreuznach, or Rollei 40mm f/3.5 lens. (Some original Rollei 35 models featured the faster f/2.8 lens and its absence here is something of a disappointment.)
Retrospekt has not disclosed how many of these cameras will be made available, stating only that they are limited.
This camera from Retrospekt is not affiliated with MiNT Camera’s Rollei 35AF, a thoroughly modern and brand-new film camera developed in partnership with the official Rollei brand.
The gold Rollei can be ordered from Retrospekt on their website.
